Biographie

Nazan Maksudyan ist derzeit Einstein-Gastprofessorin am Friedrich-Meinecke-Institut der Freien Universität Berlin und wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Centre Marc Bloch (Berlin). Ihre Forschung konzentriert sich hauptsächlich auf die Geschichte der Kinder und Jugendlichen im Osmanischen Reich während des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts, mit besonderem Interesse an Gender, Sexualität, Bildung, Humanitarismus und Nicht-Muslimen. Zu ihren Publikationen, Ottoman Children & Youth During World War I (2019), “Control over Life, Control over Body: Female Suicide in Early Republican Turkey” (2016), Orphans and Destitute Children in the Late Ottoman Empire (2014), Women and the City, Women in the City (ed., 2014).

Wissen und Leben im Exil: Eine verwickelte Geschichte der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften in der Türkei, 1925-1945

Meine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen auf der (Neu-)Strukturierung der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften und der Wissensproduktion in der neuen Republik Türkei von 1920 bis 40 Jahren durch Verflechtungen zwischen der Türkei, Deutschland, der Schweiz und Frankreich. Die Forschung wird zur globalen intellektuellen Geschichte dieser Zeit beitragen, mit einem starken sozialhistorischen Fokus, der die Trajektorien von Leben und Wissen übereinander legt.
