Forschungsthemen
My work focuses on the two colonial police forces which were built in British and German New Guinea between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During this time, both administrations recruited several thousand colonial policemen from Papua New Guinea and its neighbouring islands. At the intersection between colonial history and the history of Pacific Islanders, the research project aims at investigating colonial policemen's complex role within both colonial states.
