Romain Tiquet is a historian specializing in modern African history, particularly West Africa. He earned his PhD in African Studies from Humboldt University of Berlin, where his dissertation examined forced labour and social control in colonial and post-colonial Senegal. He is currently a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) within the Institute of African Worlds (IMAF) in Paris. He was a researcher at the Centre Marc Bloch between 2022 and 2025 (long-term CNRS mobility).

Tiquet’s work explores the histories of coercive labour, policing, and marginality, contributing to comparative and local approaches to decolonization and social order in West Africa. Since 2020, he has been the principal investigator of the ERC Starting Grant MaDAf, “Governing Madness in Africa”.
