Research

Forschungsthemen

French and German philosophies of the 18th and 19th centuries and of Turkish philosophy of the 19th and 20th Centuries, particularly in the following areas:
- Political philosophy
- Philosophy of history
- Philosophy of education
- History of philosophy and history of materialism

Research Project

In my current research project, I wish to examine how Europe has, since the 19th century, come to be progressively identified with the Enlightenment, and I am wondering what role ‘materialism’ plays in this process of definition. Conversely, I am wondering to what extent materialism, in the plurality of its meanings (ontological, political, religious, etc.), could be defined as European and, more broadly, “Western”. I am thus seeking to analyse the application of cultural boundaries to philosophy, and wish to question theoretical geographies that seem self-evident. To this end, I propose to study Europe not only from its “centre”, but from its borders;

in order to do so, I include in my corpus—composed mainly of French and German authors—Turkish authors from the 19th and 20th centuries.
