Nach meinem Studium der Geographie an der Ecole Normale Supérieure in Fontenay St Cloud und der Universität Paris-I war ich als Allocataire-moniteur-normalien der TU zugeteilt und als Doktorand dem Centre Marc Bloch angegliedert (1995-2000). Im Mai 2000 verteidigte ich meine Dissertation über "Berlin, métropole culturelle - essai géographique", die 2002 in französischer Sprache (Belin) und 2004 in deutscher Sprache (BWV) veröffentlicht wurde. 2001 wurde ich zum maitre de conférences in Geographie an der Universität Aix-Marseille ernannt, mit dem Labor UMR Telemme innerhalb des Maison méditerranénne des sciences de l'homme als Anknüpfungspunkt. Seitdem habe ich meine Forschungsgebiete auf den Mittelmeerraum ausgedehnt und gleichzeitig meine Arbeit über Berlin und Deutschland fortgesetzt. In den Jahren 2005-06 war ich auf Einladung von Professor Etienne Francois Gastprofessor an der TU Berlin. Im Jahr 2010 verteidigte ich meine Habilitationsschrift zum Thema "Stadt und künstlerisches Schaffen" und wurde 2011 zum Professor an der Universität Aix-Marseille ernannt. Ich verfolgte sehr genau die Organisation der Veranstaltung "Marseille-Provence 2013, Kulturhauptstadt Europas", die der Auslöser für ein Forschungsprojekt war, das sich mit den europäischen Kulturhauptstädten als Agenten der städtischen Raumplanung befasste. Von 2014 bis 2016 war ich Attaché universitaire an der Französischen Botschaft in Berlin, bevor ich über ein von der Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung vergebenes Forschungsstipendium (Sept. 2016-Februar 2019) wieder in die Forschung am CMB einstieg. Dieses Forschungsstipendium ermöglichte es mir, eine langfristige Reflexion über die Beziehungen zwischen Künstlern und Forschern sowie generell zwischen Kunst und Sozialwissenschaften zu beginnen [Boris Grésillon, Pour une hybridation entre arts et sciences sociales, CNRS-Editions, 2020, online abrufbar: https://books.openedition.org/editionscnrs/32387]. Es war 2019, als ich am CMB zusammen mit Etienne Jollet (Professor für Kunstgeschichte, Univ. Paris-I) und Julio Velasco (Kunstwissenschaftler und Kunsthistoriker) eine neue multidisziplinäre Forschungsgruppe rund um die Überschneidungen zwischen Künsten und SHS gegründet habe. Nach zahlreichen Seminaren hat sich diese Gruppe innerhalb des CMB-Pools 2 unter der Bezeichnung "Arts et recherches" (Kunst und Forschung) konsolidiert. Neben diesen Forschungsarbeiten verfolge ich weiterhin aufmerksam das aktuelle Geschehen in Deutschland und Europa, was zu regelmäßigen Veröffentlichungen von wissenschaftlichen Artikeln oder Presseartikeln führt. Darüber hinaus koordiniere ich den Band "Allemagnes" der Reihe "Odyssées - Portraits de villes" von ENS-Editions, der 2024 erscheinen wird. Seit 2019 bin ich von meiner Heimatuniversität (Aix-Marseille-Université) beurlaubt worden und am Lycée français de Berlin tätig, wo ich (mit Freude) Geographie und Geopolitik unterrichte.;

Après des études de géographie menées parallèlement à l´école normale supérieure de Fontenay St Cloud et à l´université de Paris-I, j´ai été Allocataire-moniteur-normalien affecté à la TU et rattaché en tant que doctorant au Centre Marc Bloch (1995-2000). J´ai soutenu ma thèse sur "Berlin, métropole culturelle - essai géographique" en mai 2000, thèse qui fut publiée en francais en 2002 (Belin) et en allemand en 2004 (BWV). En 2001, j´ai été nommé maitre de conférences en géographie à l´université Aix-Marseille, avec comme laboratoire de rattachement l´UMR Telemme au sein de la Maison méditerranénne des sciences de l´homme. Depuis lors, j´ai élargi mes champs de recherche aux terrains méditerranéens, tout en poursuivant mon travail sur Berlin et l´Allemagne. En 2005-06, sur invitation du professeur Etienne Francois, j´ai été professeur invité à la TU Berlin. En 2010, j´ai soutenu ma thèse d´habilitation sur le thème "Ville et création artistique" et en 2011, j´ai été nommé professeur à l´université Aix-Marseille. J´ai suivi de très près l´organisation de l´événement "Marseille-Provence 2013, capitale européenne de la culture", qui fut à l´origine de mon projet de recherches actuel portant sur les capitales européennes de la culture en tant qu´agents d´aménagement du territoire urbain. Enfin, de 2014 à 2016 je fus Attaché universitaire à l´Ambassade de France de Berlin, avant de réintégrer la recherche au CMB par le biais d´une bourse de recherche octroyée par la fondation Alexander-von-Humboldt.;

After studying geography at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Fontenay St Cloud and at the University of Paris-I, I was an Allocataire-moniteur-normalien at the TU and a doctoral student at the Centre Marc Bloch (1995-2000). I defended my thesis on "Berlin, cultural metropolis - a geographical essay" in May 2000, which was published in French in 2002 (Belin) and in German in 2004 (BWV). In 2001, I was appointed lecturer in geography at the University of Aix-Marseille, with the UMR Telemme within the Maison méditerranénne des sciences de l'homme as my laboratory. Since then, I have broadened my field of research to include the Mediterranean, while continuing my work on Berlin and Germany. In 2005-06, at the invitation of Professor Etienne Francois, I was a visiting professor at the TU Berlin. In 2010, I defended my habilitation thesis on the theme of 'Cities and artistic creation', and in 2011 I was appointed professor at the University of Aix-Marseille. I closely followed the organisation of the event 'Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture', which gave rise to a research project on European capitals of culture as agents of urban development. From 2014 to 2016, I was Attaché universitaire at the French Embassy in Berlin, before returning to research at the CMB through a research grant awarded by the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation (Sept. 2016-Feb. 2019). This research grant enabled me to begin a long-term reflection on the relationship between artists and researchers, and more generally between the arts and the social sciences [Boris Grésillon, Pour une hybridization entre arts et sciences sociales, CNRS-Editions, 2020, available online at https://books.openedition.org/editionscnrs/32387]. In 2019, together with Etienne Jollet (professor of art history, Univ. Paris-I) and Julio Velasco (artist and art historian), I founded a new multidisciplinary research group at the CMB on the intersections between the arts and social sciences. After a number of seminars, this group was consolidated within the CMB's Pôle 2, under the name 'Arts et recherches'. Finally, in parallel with this research, I continue to follow German and European current affairs closely, which leads to the regular publication of scientific articles and press reviews. I am also coordinating the 'Allemagnes' volume in the 'Odyssées - Portraits de villes' collection from ENS-Editions, which will be published in 2024. Since 2019, I have been on secondment from my home university (Aix-Marseille-Université) to the Lycée français de Berlin, where I teach (happily) geography and geopolitics.
