Christine Ludl hat an der Freien Universität Berlin und an Sciences Po Paris (co-tutelle) zu Repäsentationen von Mobilität und sozialem Prestige von Migranten und Migrantinnen aus dem Senegalgebiet in Frankreich promoviert. Als Postdoktorandin an der University of the Witwatersrand und am Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud in Johannesburg, Südafrika sowie als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies, hat sie zu Migration, Mobilität und Stadtentwicklung in Südafrika geforscht. Ausgehend von ihrer Beschäftigung mit dem Begriff der (Sozialen) Repräsentationen in ihrer Dissertation und ihrem Interesse für die Geschichte von Methoden, Theoriebildung und Wissensproduktion in den Sozialwissenschaften arbeitet sie aktuell an einem Forschungsprojekt zur Geschichte der Psychologie an der TH Dresden (1920 – 1970).;

Christine Ludl a soutenu une thèse en sciences politiques (option sociologie politique) dans le cadre d’une cotutelle entre la Freie Universität Berlin et Sciences Po Paris sur les représentations de la mobilité et de la réussite des migrant.e.s originaires de la vallée du fleuve Sénégal en France. Elle été postdoctorante à l’African Center for Migration and Society à l’University of the Witwatersrand et à l’Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud à Johannesburg, puis à la Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies à l’Université de Bayreuth, Allemagne où elle a travaillé sur les questions de migrations, de mobilité et de transformations urbaines en Afrique du Sud. À partir de ses travaux sur le concept de représentations (sociales) et son intérêt pour l’histoire des méthodologie et de la production du savoir dans les sciences sociales, ses recherches portent actuellement sur l’histoire de la psychologie au Technische Hochschule Dresden entre 1920 et 1970.;

Christine Ludl earned a PhD from Freie Universität Berlin and Sciences Po Paris (co-tutelle). Her PhD thesis dealt with representations of mobility and related notions of personal ambition and social prestige of migrants from the Senegal River region traveling between France and their countries of origin. Working on migration, mobility and urban transformation in South Africa, she held postdoctoral positions with the African Centre for Migration and Society at the University of the Witwatersrand and the French Institute of South Africa in Johannesburg and with the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. Building on her work on the concept of (social) representations in her PhD and her interest in the history of methodology and production of knowledge in the social sciences, she is currently working on the history of psychology at Technische Hochschule Dresden from the early 1920s to the late 1960s.

Zusammenfassung

Representation(s) of mobility, personal achievement and social prestige. Migrants from the Senegal River Valley travelling between their countries of origin and France. Christine Ludl’s Ph.D. thesis explores the representation(s) and imaginations of migrants from the Senegal River Valley traveling between their countries of origin and France. The project pursues a twofold objective: Firstly, to account for transformations of representation(s) of power, legitimacy, and success, as well as for a diversification of ways to accede to social prestige, as they have been observed in various African countries. Secondly, to further develop a theoretical and methodological framework for the analysis of representation(s) and the imagination and to provide a detailed understanding of the relations between culture, politics and representation(s). The study draws on an interdisciplinary theoretical framework building on anthropology, social psychology and (the) philosophy (of culture), leading to a methodological framework that combines non directive interview with the analysis of cultural performances. The thesis reveals new forms of conceiving the relations between mobility and social prestige, especially in relation to time, but also the ambiguities and contradictions stemming from of social and power relations during migration and the ways in which the migrants deal with these ambiguities.;

Dans les études sur les migrations de la vallée du fleuve Sénégal des approches en termes de développement et d’une supposée « tradition » du voyage ont souvent dominées. Cette étude propose de changer de perspective et de saisir le sujet sous l’angle d’une approche en termes de « représentations ». L’enjeu de ce travail est de préciser les notions de représentations et d’imaginaire, leurs liens avec celles de culture et de politique, et de les rendre opérationnelles au niveau méthodologique en s’appuyant sur des approches anthropologiques, psychosociologiques et sur la philosophie (de la culture). Il démontre l’apport limité des approches habituelles en sciences sociales des « représentations» et de « l’imaginaire » et aboutit à une perspective où concepts théoriques et résultats empiriques s’éclairent mutuellement et suscitent de nouvelles questions de recherches. Il révèle les logiques économiques, sociales et politiques du désir du départ, notamment des « nouvelles Représentation(s) » de la réussite et de la migration et démontre que celle-ci relève d’un choix à travers lequel les migrants tentent de poursuivre plusieurs objectifs, sociaux et économiques et en partie contradictoires. Ce choix entraîne des contradictions et des ambiguïtés, émanant des relations des migrant(e)s au groupe et aux sociétés d’origine et de destination, mais également un potentiel d’innovation pour gérer ces ambivalences.;
