Petra Beck

Petra Beck ist Europäische Ethnologin und Kulturanthropologin. Sie hat mehrere Jahre im Bereich Film gearbeitet und anschließend Europäische Ethnologie, Kulturwissenschaft und Gender Studies an der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin studiert. Ihre Magisterarbeit »Restopia. Selfstorage als urbane Praxis« untersuchte die materielle Seite urbaner Entwicklung und die Beziehungen zwischen Menschen, Dingen und Biographien anhand einer Forschung in 14 deutschen Selfstorage-Häusern. Die Arbeit wurde mit dem Georg-Simmel-Preis für Stadtforschung 2013 ausgezeichnet. Sie arbeitete als Lehrbeauftragte am Institut für Europäische Ethnologie der Humboldt Universität und als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der TU München im Schnittstellenprojekt »Engineering Responsiblity«. Seit Oktober 2016 ist Petra Beck Doktorandin am Centre Marc Bloch (CMB) und forscht weiter zu den Beziehungen zwischen Menschen und Dingen und Dingräumen. Seit 2017 wissenschaftliche Ko-Leitung der Forschungsgruppe “Erfahrungen der Globalisierung” am CMB. Seit 2018 Ko-Organisation des Schwerpunkts „Dynamiken und Erfahrungen der Globalisierung“. Als visuelle Anthropologin war sie in den letzten Jahren an mehreren künstlerischen Projekten beteiligt.;

Petra Beck is a Cultural Anthropologist. She worked for several years in the field of film and then studied European ethnology, cultural studies and gender studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Her master thesis »Restopia. Selfstorage als urbane Praxis« examines the material side of urban development and the relationships between people, things and biographies through fieldwork in 14 German Selfstorage houses. The work was awarded the 2013 Georg Simmel Prize for Urban Research. She worked as a lecturer at the Institute for European Ethnology of the Humboldt University and as a research assistant at the Technical University of Munich in the project "Engineering Responsibility". Since October 2016, Petra Beck is a PhD candidate at the Center Marc Bloch (CMB) and continues to research the relationships between people and things and Thingspaces. Since 2017 scientific co-leader of the research group "Experiences of Globalization" at the CMB. Since 2018 Co-Organisation of the research axe "Dynamics and experiences of Globalization". As a visual anthropologist she has been involved in several artistic projects in recent years.    ;
