Martin Jay (University of California Berkeley)The Virtues of Mendacity: On Lying in Politics Transcending the time-honored alternative between a moralistic condemnation of political mendacity and its instrumental defense requires an elaboration of various concepts of “the political.” This talk will explore some of the possible ways in which these different concepts may permit a greater understanding and perhaps even justification of lying in the realm of politics.
