CINÉ-CLUB : Samouni Road

A French-Italian film released in 2018 and directed by Stefano Savona. Summary: ‘On the rural outskirts of Gaza City, the Samouni family is preparing to celebrate a wedding. It’s the first celebration since the last war. Amal, Fouad, their brothers and cousins have lost their parents, their homes and their olive trees. The neighbourhood where they live is being rebuilt. They are replanting trees and ploughing fields, but these young survivors have an even more difficult task ahead of them: rebuilding their own memories. Through their memories, Samouni Road paints a portrait of this family before, during and after the event that changed their lives forever. The screening will be followed by a discussion with researchers Mathias Delori and Hanan Toukan. This screening is part of the Ciné-Club’s ‘Childhood and Conflict’ series.
