Prof. Dr. Markus Messling

Markus Messling ist seit April 2019 Professor für Romanische Kulturwissenschaft an der Universität des Saarlandes. Von Juni 2015 bis März 2019 war er stellvertretender Direktor des Centre Marc Bloch und seit Herbst 2018 zugleich Professor für Romanische Literaturen an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Promotion in Romanischer Philologie an der Freien Universität Berlin 2007;

Habilitation an der Universität Potsdam 20​15 (Venia legendi für Romanische Philologie und Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft). Er war Projektleiter Wissenschaft und Forschung bei der ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius in Hamburg (2007/2008), und DAAD/MSH-Postdoktorand an der École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) Paris (2008/2009). Von 2009 bis 2014 war er Leiter der Emmy Noether-Nachwuchsgruppe "Philologie und Rassismus im 19. Jahrhundert" an der Universität Potsdam (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). Seit 2011 ist er zudem Sprecher (gem. mit Franck Hofmann) der internationalen Forschergruppe "Transmed! Denken der Méditerranée und europäisches Bewusstsein" (DFJW, in Kooperation mit dem Collège International de Philosophie Paris). Seine Arbeiten wurden mit dem Tiburtius Preis der Berliner Universitäten für herausragende Dissertationen sowie dem Nachwuchswissenschaftler-Preis des Landes Brandenburg ausgezeichnet. Markus Messling ist Mitglied des Kollegiums von "Zukunftsphilologie. Revisiting the Canons of Textual Scholarship" (Forum Transregionale Studien / Freie Universität Berlin), Gründungsherausgeber von Philological Encounters (Leiden, Boston: Brill) und Redakteur der Zeitschrift für Ideengeschichte (München: C.H. Beck). Er war Fellow der School of Advanced Study-University of London (2014), Visiting Scholar der University of Cambridge und des Wolfson College (2014), sowie Gastprofessor an der EHESS Paris (2011, 2015) und der Kobe University in Japan (2016).;

Markus Messling est professeur d'Études culturelles à l'Université de la Sarre depuis avril 2019. Il a été directeur adjoint du Centre Marc Bloch de juin 2015 à mars 2019 ainsi que professeur de Littératures romanes à l'Université Humboldt de Berlin depuis le semestre d'hiver 2018. Il a obtenu son doctorat en Philologie romane à la Freie Universität Berlin (2007) et son habilitation à la faculté de philosophie de l’Université de Potsdam en 2015 (Venia legendi pour Philologie romane et Littérature générale et comparée). Il a été directeur de programme en sciences humaines et sociales à la fondation privée de l’hebdomadaire DIE ZEIT à Hambourg (2007/2008), puis post-doctorant du DAAD et de la Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme à l’EHESS (2008/2009). Entre 2009 et 2014, il a été directeur du groupe de recherche « Philologie et racisme au XIXe siècle » financé par la Fondation allemande pour la recherche (DFG) et rattaché à l’Université de Potsdam. Depuis 2011, avec Franck Hofmann, il est aussi le directeur du projet de recherche international « Transmed ! Pensée méditerranéenne et conscience européenne » (OFAJ, en coopération avec le Collège International de Philosophie Paris). Pour ses travaux il a reçu le Prix Tiburtius des Universités de Berlin ainsi que le Prix postdoctoral dans la catégorie sciences humaines du Ministère de la recherche du Land Brandebourg. Markus Messling est membre du collegium de « Zukunftsphilologie » (Forum Transregionale Studien / Freie Universität Berlin), co-éditeur de la revue Philological Encounters (Leiden, Boston : Brill) et rédacteur de la revue Zeitschrift für Ideengeschichte (C.H. Beck). Il a été Visiting Fellow à la School of Advanced Study de l'université de Londres (2014), Visiting Scholar au Wolfson College de l'université de Cambridge (2014), ainsi que professeur invité à l’EHESS (2011, 2015) et à l'université de Kobe au Japon (2016).;

Markus Messling is Full Professor for Romance Cultural Studies at University of the Saarland since April 2019. He has been Vice Director of Centre Marc Bloch from June 2015 till March 2019, and also Professor for Romance Literatures at Humboldt University of Berlin since fall 2018. He holds a Dr phil in Romance Philology from Freie Universität Berlin (2007), and a habilitation in Romance Philology and Comparative Literature from Potsdam University (2015). He was Programme Director "Science & Research" at the private ZEIT Foundation in Hamburg (2007/2008), and was a postdoctoral fellow at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris in 2008/2009 (funded by the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme and the German Academic Exchange Service/DAAD). From 2009 to 2014 he was directing an Emmy Noether Excellence Grant on „Philology and Racism in the 19th Century“ at Potsdam University funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Since 2011 he is also spokesperson (with Franck Hofmann) of the international interdisciplinary research network „Transmed! Pensée méditerranéenne et conscience européenne“, realized in cooperation with the Collège International de Philosophie Paris. He was awarded the Tiburtius Prize by the Universities of Berlin in 2008, and received the Science Award of the Land Brandenburg in the Humanities in 2010. Markus Messling is a member of the collegium of "Zukunftsphilologie.
