The Scientific Council
The Scientific Advisory Board consists of 10 members – half of whom are German and half French figures from the worlds of science and research – who are entrusted with a two-year mandate that can be extended twice. The German members are appointed by the Federal Ministry of Education, Technology and Space (BMFTR), while the French members are appointed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEAE), the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and the French Ministry of Education and Research (MESR). The Scientific Advisory Board meets at least once a year, alternating between Berlin and Paris.
The members of the Advisory Board elect a chairperson from among their ranks, who also represents the Advisory Board at the General Assembly. The Scientific Advisory Board reaches its decisions by a two-thirds majority. It advises the other bodies of the association on the realisation of the association’s objectives and on all important issues relating to the association’s activities. On the basis of the Executive Board’s activity report, it comments in particular on the scientific orientation of the association, the determination of research priorities and scientific quality assurance.
