Alexander Ephrussi

Alexander Ephrussi ist Anthropologe und seit 2026 assoziierter Forscher am Centre Marc Bloch. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen auf Migration, Widerstand, Deportationen und staatlicher Gewalt. Im Jahr 2026 promovierte er in Anthropologie und Soziologie am Graduate Institute Geneva (IHEID) mit einer Dissertation über afghanische Migrationen in der Türkei, affektive Gouvernementalität und Bewegung im urbanen Raum, die mit summa cum laude ausgezeichnet wurde. Von 2022 bis 2023 war er Gastwissenschaftler an der Galatasaray-Universität in Istanbul. Von 2024 bis 2025 arbeitete er als Lehrassistent am Graduate Institute Geneva sowie von 2021 bis 2022 als Forschungsassistent an der Universität Genf. Seine wissenschaftlichen Projekte wurden unter anderem duch das Schweizer Bundes-Exzellenz Stipendium und das Sekforde Trust Scholarship gefördert. Seinen Masterabschluss in Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie erwarb er 2018 am University College London mit einer migrationsanthropologischen Arbeit über afghanische Migrationen nach Deutschland seit 2015. Seinen Bachelorabschluss absolvierte er 2016 an der University of Oxford in Anthropologie und Archäologie.

Alexander Ephrussi est anthropologue associé au Centre Marc Bloch depuis 2026. Ses recherches portent sur les migrations, la résistance, les déportations et la violence d’État. Il a défendu sa thèse de doctorat en 2026 en anthropologie et sociologie l’Institut des Hautes Études Internationales et du Développement à Genève avec une thèse consacrée aux migrations afghanes en Turquie, à la gouvernance affective et au mouvement dans l’espace urbain, récompensée par la mention summa cum laude avec félicitations du jury. De 2022 à 2023, il a été chercheur invité à l’Université Galatasaray d’Istanbul. Il a travaillé comme assistant d’enseignement de 2024 à 2025 à l’Institut des Hautes Études Internationales et du Développement à Genève, ainsi que comme assistant de recherche à l’Université de Genève de 2021 à 2022. Ses projets de recherche ont notamment été soutenus par la bourse fédérale suisse d’excellence et la bourse du Sekforde Trust. Il est titulaire d’un master en anthropologie sociale et culturelle de University College London, obtenu en 2018 avec un mémoire consacré aux migrations afghanes vers l’Allemagne depuis 2015. Il a obtenu sa licence à l’Université d’Oxford en 2016, où il a étudié l’anthropologie et l’archéologie.

Alexander Ephrussi is an anthropologist associated to the Centre Marc Bloch since 2026. His research focuses on migration, resistance, deportations and state violence. He completed his PhD in anthropology and sociology in 2026 at the Graduate Institute Geneva (IHEID) on Afghan migrations in Turkey, affective governance and movement in the urban space, for which he received a summa cum laude with highest honours. From 2022 until 2023 he was a guest researcher at the Galatasaray University of Istanbul. He worked as a teaching assistant from 2024 to 2025 at the Graduate Institute Geneva, and as a research assistant at the University of Geneva from 2021 until 2022. His research projects were supported, among others, by the Swiss Federal Excellence Scholarship and the Sekforde Trust Scholarship. He holds a master’s degree in social and cultural anthropology from the University College London acquired in 2018 with a thesis in anthropology of migration about Afghan migrations to Germany since 2015. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Oxford in 2016, reading anthropology and archaeology.
