Opportunities and challenges in the European energy transition 28 January 2021, 16:00 – 18:00 C.E.T., online (via Zoom) Digital technologies can pave the way to the future of a climate-friendly energy sector. As policy makers and actors in the field of energy transition, the invited experts will bring differ- ent European and French-German perspectives in our debate tackling topics related to op- portunities and challenges of new digital technologies in the energy sector within the context of the European Green Deal. This panel discussion is organised in the framework of the cycle „Utopie Europa – Digitale Uto- pie“ financed by the French Embassy, the French Institute and the French-German University. It is co-financed by the Centre Marc Bloch. Are new technologies going to harm or to save our environment? Transdiciplinary courses and international online student discussions The „Pensées Françaises Contemporaines“ programme invites you to participate in a project of the Europa Universität Viadrina, in collaboration with the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the Centre Marc Bloch (Berlin). The project is financed by the French Embassy in Berlin, the Franco-German University, the French Institute and the Centre Marc Bloch and will take place in the winter semester 2020/2021. Asking current social questions How should we deal with digitisation in the future in the context of environmental degradation and climate change? Do we use its advantages, or do we increasingly submit to its own rules? What ecological footprint does digitisation leave behind? And do we have an awareness of what footprintthe university is leaving behind, especially in times of online teaching? Discussing topics in interactive formats 1) The use of digital technology to support climate protection and adaptation: New technologies serving the environment and mankind? 2) Crisis management: To what extent can new technologies help to overcome crises? 3) Technology, energy and natural resources: What do new technologies consume from their production, over their use and until the end of their life cycle (waste, recycling)? 4) For a responsible and thoughtful use of new technologies in view of climate problems: What do you think about the concept of „digital sobriety“?
