Hence, the German Federal Government has recognized that hydrogen will play a key role in enhancing and completing the energy transition. By tabling the National Hydrogen Strategy on 10th June 2020, the Federal Government has been aiming to provide a coherent framework for the generation, transport and use of hydrogen, encouraging the relevant innovations and investments. The Strategy’s Action Plan sets out the first steps towards the integration of climate-friendly hydrogen into the energy system and supports the creation of new value chains for the German economy. At European and international level, especially against the backdrop of lasting needs for energy imports, the Strategy’s Action Plan fosters energy policy cooperation. How does the German approach relate to the European hydrogen strategy and the stance taken by other major European players, especially France ?“ Bio : Dr. Cyriac Massué is a French-German engineer from Ecole Polytechnique (Paris) and ETH (Zürich). Since 2019, he‘s a policy officer at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), involved in the elaboration and implementation of the German Hydrogen Strategy. Prior to joining BMWi, he pursued an academic career in the field of energy research within the Max-Planck Society (MPG) for seven years, in close collaboration with Prof. R. Schlögl. His main focus was on hydrogen production via electrolysis. In parallel to his postdoctoral research, he graduated from the professional Master of European Governance and Administration (MEGA) offered by the Ecole nationale d’administration (ENA). In this context, he was setting up French-German collaboration schemes in energy research, especially between MPG and the French CEA research organisation.
