Biographie

Nach ihrem Studium der historischen Anthropologie, Politikwissenschaft und Islamwissenschaft an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Brsg., wurde sie an der Freien Universität Berlin promoviert. Sie war Gastforscherin am International Migration Institute Oxford, anschließend Postdoktorandin an der Chaire d’études africaines comparées in Rabat (EGE) und später in der, vom Deutschen Historischen Institut Paris und dem Centre de recherche sur les politiques sociales initierten und in Dakar ansässigen transnationalen Forschungsgruppe „Die Bürokratisierung Afrikanischer Gesellschaften“.

Ihre Forschung beschäftigt sich mit der Verbindung von Mobilität, Migration und Religion in afrikanischen Städten. Sie befasst sich insbesondere mit der Produktion von religiösen urbanen Räumen durch Zirkulation und Migration sowie mit der Rolle von religiösen Institutionen (sowohl christlichen als auch muslimischen) in der Einschreibung (encartement) der Identität von Migranten und der Governance ihrer Mobilitäten.
