Internationales Kolloquium (Fremd-) Sprachenunterricht in einem multikulturellen Europa: geopolitische Veränderungen, Konfigurationen der Identität und didaktische Prioritäten
November 14 | 09:00
14.-15 November 2024
The teaching and learning of languages are inextricably linked to social and identity issues. They are also influenced by political decisions about languages, their speakers, and their uses. This field is constantly evolving at the pace of globalization, which intensifies exchanges and transcends geographical boundaries. This globalized space presents complex situations of language appropriation, offering a rich ground for study.
This conference, co-organized with French, German, and international partners, will examine the historical and contemporary power relations between languages and cultures. We will explore how these relations impact the language education and discourses that legitimize, prioritize, or conceal linguistic plurality, ultimately justifying or rejecting it.
The conference aims to compare the work and experiences of:
• Plidam (Institut National des langues et civilisations orientales), Paris, France
• Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany.
This will be achieved by opening a dialogue with our European partners.
Mastery of languages and the ability to interact effectively with others are demonstrably crucial factors for success in education, society, and cohesion within multicultural communities.
This thematic strand of the conference encourages reflection on :
• the skills and training needed for language proficiency, the professionalization prospects for language educators;
• the disciplines involved in European university curricula for foreign languages and cultures, particularly in the context of migration and mobility;
• the connections between language mastery, rapid technological innovation, and the ability to analyze and adapt to difference and diversity.
This conference brings together speakers, researchers, and early-career scholars from a wide range of backgrounds. Their expertise spans diverse languages, literatures, and cultures.
They aim to bridge the gap between different linguistic and cultural spaces, both physical and virtual, from the traditional language classroom to the digital universe. They will offer thought-provoking avenues for future research and revitalize this field of study, which involves a wide range of stakeholders: educators, learners, policymakers, institutions, curriculum developers, publishers, media outlets, and more.
CONFERENCE GOALS
• foster dialogue between French, German, and European researchers within Berlin‘s university environment;
• facilitate networking among scholars of foreign languages, literatures, and cultures;
• strengthen cooperation between French and German institutions, as well as the broader European research landscape, for the mutual benefit of all partners.
