Biography

Antje Dietze has been an associated researcher at Centre Marc Bloch since October 2024. She earned her doctorate from Leipzig University in 2012 with a study on the role of cultural institutions in the post-socialist transformation using the example of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin.

In the academic year 2014/15, she was a research fellow at the Centre canadien d’études allemandes et européennes at Université de Montréal, funded by the programme “Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience” (P.R.I.M.E.) of the German Academic Exchange Service (Marie Curie Actions/COFUND).

From 2016 to 2024, she was a researcher in the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB 1199) “Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition” at Leipzig University. She was also deputy director and coordinator of the Leipzig Centre for the Study of France and the Francophone World and speaker of the Franco-German graduate school „Transferts culturels / Kulturtransfers“ in cooperation with Ecole normale supérieure (ENS-PSL) in Paris.

Antje Dietze’s field of research is the social and cultural history of Germany, Europe and North America in the 19th and 20th centuries. She focuses on the history of artistic movements, cultural organizations, and the cultural and media industries, using approaches from transnational history and transregional studies.

She is currently writing her second book (habilitation) on the entrepreneurs and transnational connections of the entertainment industries in North America and Europe from the 1880s to the 1920s. Her upcoming project investigates the international organization of the media industries with a focus on intellectual property rights and trade relations in the twentieth century.
