CINÉ-CLUB : Just Married
13. Oktober | 18:30
While Israel’s citizenship law allows entry to all Jews, it bars legal status for Palestinians—even if they marry 1948 Arabs (Palestinian citizens of the state). The award winning documentary “Just Married” follows the first year of marriage of two brave couples who defy this law. Kifah falls in love with a Gazan, leaves behind her career and family, and emigrates to Berlin to live with her husband. Suhad from Bethlehem marries a Jerusalem resident and is forced to cross the border undercover to reach her new home. Twenty years after its debut, “Just Married” is still painfully relevant.
The film’s screening will be followed by a conversation with its protagonist Kifah Massaarwi and director Ayelet Bechar, moderated by Aurélia Kalisky of the Marc Bloch Centre Cine Club.
