Title of the dissertation: Working on cultural theory. Critique of the phenomenology of the mind
The work is based on the observation that cultural-critical analyses quite frequently draw on Hegel's phenomenology of the spirit: from Fanon to Marcuse to Butler. Such a critical approach to phenomenology, which uses it for the critique of cultural problems, is obviously very productive and is systematically elaborated in this dissertation, based in particular on Fredric Jameson's The Hegel Variations (2010). Because of Hegel's affirmative idealist dialectic, this approach must be developed on the basis of a critique of phenomenology. Following the method of materialist-dialectical critique of philosophy (elaborated for example by Marx, Adorno, Deleuze/Guattari) and oriented in particular towards Marx's critique of Hegel's constitutional law, phenomenology is understood as an accurate representation of the “false” - in Marx's case the state, here modern culture. Such a critique of phenomenology is therefore, through the critique of its representation, also a critique of what it represents: modern culture. “Culture” in the sense of Walter Benjamin and Raymond Williams means a historically determined, comprehensive and everyday way of life. Phenomenology is a theory of modern culture in that it represents the system of manifestations of the spirit, which is interpreted here with Adorno as society. While the Hegelian system as such represents the institutions of modern society as such - in the center family, bourgeois society and state - phenomenology represents their manifestations in everyday life: Community, public sphere and nation.
